Quick Guide

The Basic Grey cupcake paper was just plain delicious but a little too full on for me to use a whole sheet, so I chose to just use it as an accent for the page.

I cut a sheet of the confetti paper smaller than the cardstock and then scalloped the bottom edge. I find it works really well to just cut this freehand. You can judge the size really easily and if they are not all exactly the same size it doesn’t matter.

The confetti paper was then stitched onto the background and the scallop edge was doodled around.

I cut lots of cupcakes out of the patterned paper and mounted them on circle backgrounds which were inked at the edges. To echo the circles of these elements I also used a circle block under the picture and a circle to partly frame the picture.

The chipboard swirl, tied with some of the Basic Grey fibres, gave a party feel to the page and the letters in the pack were perfect for the title.

Quick Guide

This was a special page showcasing two pictures 18 years apart. Nigel with Bruno when he was just an 18 month old boy (big though – eh!) and Bruno now – an old gentlemen.

I cut the striped paper smaller than the background paper, inked the edges and then sewed it to the background.

I wanted an old worn look for the mounts, whilst keeping the colours clean and fresh, and so I stitched around the edge, coloured the back of the paper with inks to tone in and then creased and rolled and rubbed the edges so they were all worn and distressed. You can see that better on the close up pictures.

The journaling was quite extensive so I popped it onto a tag from the same paper, with a button pull, and slid it under the main picture.

"Cup Cake Queen"

Quick Guide

When I saw the cupcake papers one thing – or should I say one person – sprung to mind straight away. It had to be the undisputed cupcake queen – Shimelle.   I took the picture at ScrapFever and she had made the most gorgeous cupcakes for us all to share.

I wanted a slightly freer style for the page, in keeping with Shimelle really.

I stitched a little grid of cupcakes to the top and bottom of the page and left the pictures unmounted. As a queen she needed a cute little crown, cut out and mounted on foam pads, and then I added chipboard arrows, shapes and cupcakes to lead the eye round the page.

Quick Guide

When I saw the buttons, the circles on the papers and the designs I thought of Family Circle immediately. I know our family circle is a little unusual but hey!

I cut the circles from the circle paper and then stitched a range of buttons onto them to echo the circle theme. To make sure I positioned them in a good circle I cut a circular frame from a scrap of paper and mounted them onto that which made for easier placement.

I used one of the solid papers as the background and two strips cut from the border paper for the top and bottom border of the page. The chipboard shapes just fitted with the theme – a star because Kira is our little star and hearts because we love her (she’s has a very bad 6 months!)

Quick Guide

The papers had a real festival party feel and so I used this picture of Emily on her most recent birthday.

I wanted the background colour to be seen as well, so I cut the border paper into strips and made sure I left gaps between the strips for the paper to show through and for journaling.

The chipboard zigzags made a great addition and an interesting flow for the journaling.

I used the birthday sticker border along the top of the page and it turned out a crazy busy page – just like the day itself.

Quick Guide

The range of papers in the pack was very diverse and it was what I loved about the set. These papers leant themselves so well to a thoughtful page about the two of us.

I kept the page looking simple, though there a couple of nice techniques on the page which I enjoy using.

The patterned paper was cut to leave a border and stitched on.

I then made a paper ruffle border from a strip of the white paper, pleating it, inking it and then stitching it into a ruffle. It gave the page a very soft feel.

I also stitched the heart that was cut from the two papers and added a button for detail.

The quote – one of my favourites – was printed on a transparency and then the back of the transparency was painted white to make the quote stand out a little.

"Birthday Candle" Card

Designed by Karen Leahy

Products used: Basic Grey Cupcake Collection

Quick Guide

The beauty of a collection such as this is the ease with which you can create cards, because everything matches so well.

This card was really simple, using a confetti background with two solid cardstock blocks and stickers and chipboard pieces from the range.

To make the lettering stand out a little it was outlined in black.

"Birthday Parcel" Card

Designed by Karen Leahy

Quick Guide

This card again used a Confetti paper background. Two of the stickers – the two parcels – were mounted on black card to make them pop off the page and then stuck onto the card using foam squares.

"6 Today Clown Card"

Designed by Karen Leahy

Products used: Basic Grey Cupcake Collection

Quick Guide

Made for Emily’s next birthday, this card was one of the simplest I have ever made and so much fun. Assembling the chipboard clown was a visit down memory lane back to childhood pleasures. Why shouldn’t making things be simple sometimes … it’s relaxing!

I used faux stitching round the background paper and also outlined the word in black to lift it off the page.

"Congratulations Card"

Quick Guide

The red patterned and solid papers had a more sophisticated feel to them and so I made a more generic card that could be used for all sorts of occasions.

The flower was from the sticker sheet, simply mounted onto black card and stuck on with foam pads.

I stamped the stem and the sentiment onto the red paper and then mounted that onto black to coordinate.
