Renewing Tired Objects with Santoro Deco Mache

by

Louise Brigden

Santoro Deco Mache papers are so easy to work with. They feel light and delicate but they are really quite tough so they don’t pull apart when wet like tissue paper would. I loved working with them and as you can use them on wood, plastic, metal and glass my adventure has only just begun.

You will need:

In the photograph you will see that I used the Deco Mache papers to cover metal and ceramic but the instructions are pretty much the same for anything you choose to cover;

  • Simply apply Deco Mache/Mod Podge glue to the clean dry surface with a soft fat brush (I use a flat water colour brush) then

  •  apply the paper to the surface, smoothing it down with the same brush.

  • If your item needs to be extra durable allow to dry and apply at least two more layers of Mod Podge (for the cup; do more).

Here is my mirror prior to the transformation:

I tied a Mirabelle Wooden Key and lock to a piece of Mirabelle lace and hung it decoratively on the frame:

The coaster in the photograph is a small wall tile:

Mirabelle Card 1

This card is actually very simple to make, try it and see!

Fold your cardstock in half and place the largest (outer) die on top of it (cutting side down) with the fold positioned about 1cm within the side of the oval. Now put it through your cutting platform.

You should now have a tent fold card base. Don’t panic when it won’t stand up straight, here is the secret which applies to any curved card base; open up the card and with your craft knife and a ruler slice off the bottom 3mm from the back of your card. That small straight edge is enough to make your card stable.

Use the inner die with premium Santoro paper and finish with distress inks if desired then attach to the base with sticky pads.

The central part of the card is the same process repeated (without the folded card!)

With the central part turned at a right angle to the base attach with foam pads like before.

Now simply layer some paper blossoms and secure before attaching the beautiful centre piece of the metal charm.

You will need:

Santoro Mirabelle Metal Charms

Santoro Mirabelle 6”x6” Premium Paper Pack

Santoro Mirabelle Cotton Lace Ribbons

Corner punch

Cut two base pieces of premium fabric paper measuring 15 x 6 cm and glue together back to back so that you have a double sided base.

Now cot two smaller inner rectangles in contrasting paper measuring 14 x 5 cm

Punch the corners and attach to both sides.

Take a generous length of cotton lace and wrap vertically. Knot at the top and glue in position.

Finally knot one end of the remaining lace to a Santoro metal charm.

Don’t be tempted to fix the charm to the bookmark, the idea is that it hangs outside of the book when the bookmark is in place.

Canvas

You will need:

Cut a piece of Deco Mache paper large enough to cover the front and the sides of the canvas.

Using a soft brush; cover the canvas all over with Deco Mache Glue.

Lay the paper onto the canvas and brush smooth with your brush loaded with more glue.

Snip the paper at the corners so that it will fold over neatly and again, stick down folding and gluing at the back if there is enough paper.

Allow to dry then draw and paint your tree with a black pen and acrylic paints. I did some distressing and enhancing with distress inks around the edges and some gold spraying ink lightly spritzed over the front.

Finally add buttons, pearls and anything else you think will look good then wrap with some cotton lace.

Thank You Cards

by

You will need;

Spellbinders Shapabilities Fancy Framed Tags One (or similar)

15 x 7.5 cm card blanks (12"x12" cardstock folded to size)

Santoro Mirabelle Glitter Stickers

Santoro Mirabelle Cotton Lace Ribbons

Santoro Mirabelle 6”x6” Premium Paper Pack

Santoro Mirabelle Adhesive pearls Coloured

Glue/double-sided tape

Inks

These basic instructions cover all four cards:

Cut a rectangle of premium paper just a little smaller than your base card – this will be your base.

Now attach cotton lace with PVA glue or Double Sided Tape- wrap ends around the back of the paper.

Then simply add your sticky backed glitter stickers and embellish with pearls or gems. Finally attach the whole thing to your card base.

Some of the Mirabelle papers are fabric, and mixing them, as I did below in one of the cards, gives a lovely contrast:
