I had just bought this little birdhouse with a view to using it as a decoration in my bedroom and this collection was perfect for that. They can be picked up really cheaply and are great fun to alter.

I started by painting the house with a blue base coat. I used acrylic paints from my folk art painting days and because I am a lazy girl at heart I didn’t see the point in painting it all. Only the edges needed doing on the main house and those only in case there were any little gaps. It was really the base, the perch and the chimney that needed painting.

I cut templates out of scrap paper to cover the front, back and sides and then cut them out of a patterned Cappella paper.

I stuck them on with double sided tape and made sure there were no gaps. (You see, I didn’t even really need to paint those side edges!) I cut the holes in the paper in the front of the birdhouse with a sharp knife:

...and then used a file to neaten all of the edges.

To make the roof I cut strips of brown paper (the reverse of one of the patterned) and then scallop punched the edges. I inked the edges with brown

and cut them into strips for the roof.

I overlayed the strips on the roof so they looked like roof shingles.

I added little flowers  to the base,...

...Prima lace round the chimney, and the little birds are two of the Cappella rub on onto cardstock and then cut out.

It was really fun to make and looks cute in the bedroom. I am sure you would love making one to match your décor.

Prima Swirl

Ok so it took 24 years to get round to doing this, but I am glad I waited because these papers were perfect for it.

The photo is my favourite from our wedding (I’d like to get married again …. To Nij of course …. Because modern photos are so much nicer. Ours are the very posed stilted variety common in the 80’s.) This is a more natural one taken by my brother in law. The problem was it was dark and to make our faces lighter is meant my dress went into white out. However, putting one of the rub-ons over the photo disguised that problem a little. It looked like it was meant to be that to hold the words Bride and groom.

I used another rub on for the title and adding the lace and the wonderful Prima pearl and gem flourish just gave the page not only a softness and a prettiness but also that hint of the ‘special’ that we associate with weddings.

I love papers that you can use little bits of to give different effects and the dark doily paper was just perfect for this. It means you get to use it on a lot of projects and it adds to each of them. I liked the stitched but rugged effect the two strips gave to this page and how it picked up the dark in some of the photos.

I pride myself on the fact that every range of papers has perfect papers for the cats! This one certainly did have.

I used one of the Cappella chipboard frames for Kira’s picture but thought it would be more fun to have her ears bursting out of the frame. Again roughing up the edges gave a shabby feel to the page and the rub ons added top and bottom added a little bit of softness. .

Apart from the picture the main focus of this page was the large Cappella journalling block and transparency and I wanted that to shine out. The patterned papers were a little heavy for the page so cutting out some of the designs and using them over and under the main elements worked better.

The large Cappella wedding cake chipboard sticker begged to be used for a wedding card. It was mounted simply on a cream frame and I used coordinating Cappella papers for the background of the card.

Don’t you just love it when you see chipboard blocks with phrases like ‘I love you because …’? The possibilities of what to create are endless.

As soon as I saw the Cappella colours they shouted out the colours of the desert where we had been so recently. The hazy pinks, creams and greens just shouted out the desert colours.

I used strips of cardstock to frame the picture and to frame the Cappella Chipboard accent and journaling block.

This was a very simple page showing some of the brighter colours in the Cappella range.

The thing I wanted to show with this was combining the transparency journaling blocks and rub-ons. I used one of the rub-ons over the transparency as the sub title for the page. Also using two strips of the heavily patterned paper helped tie the decorative border in with the page and ground it a little.

"Birthday Wishes" Card

When you have embellishments as lovely as these Cappella pipe-cleaner posies you need little else to make a card. I cut a rectangle of Cappella patterned paper and inked the edges and simply added a cardstock strip and sentiment and a small tag from the same Cappella cardstock under the flower.

Prima Lace

Prima Flower from the Andorra with Butterfly pack.

Having been married for almost 25 years I have never really scrapped our wedding pictures and so receiving this kit was the perfect time to make a start. I wanted to make something other than a page and so used this canvas.

I painted the canvas first in a dusky pink and then sponged the edges and sides with various shades of pale pink, darker pink, cream and brown.

I used a cardstock background, set at an angle and cut the edges with a lace effect edge punch.

I cut a shaped frame for the photo from one of the patterned papers. This is really easy to do. Draw a shape you like on scrap paper and then just concentrate on one quarter of the frame. Get that right and then fold the paper in half vertically and trace through the shape, unfold it and fold it in half horizontally and trace the shape and then you have a perfectly symmetrical frame. Easy! I do like easy.

I cut the frame from the patterned paper and edged it with chalk ink.

The photo was mounted on the cardstock background and then the frame was added on foam squares to give a little extra dimension.

I added a strip of lace to the bottom and a lace flower made from the same lace.

The gorgeous Prima flower needed to be showcase, but it needed more dimensional flowers. These were made from scraps of the patterned papers (the beauty of double sided papers) torn into rough circles, petals torn in them and then the petals curled. I used some of the pearls for the centres.

Prima Flower:

The only additions to finish off the canvas here the title block from the Cappella sticker sheet, the date and a Cappella chipboard swirl.

Prima Lace

I love simplicity that works and this was very simple. Using a scrap of the lace and a scrap of the Cappella patterned papers, edged with a scallop punch, just gave the base for the card. I added a stamped sentiment and a couple of the Cappella chipboard stickers: a flower and a tiny heart.

Although I used the papers from some wedding pages, they are far more versatile than just that. Adding the brown paper, the reverse of one of the patterned papers, as the base, really popped the papers. I distressed the edges all the way round as this seemed to echo the dryness of the pictures. You can get all sorts of distressing tools to roughen up edges, but it is really easy to do with the blade of a sharp pair of scissors. These papers have a fab white core which lends itself well to this technique.

Again strips of the dark Cappella doily paper added an edge and I also wanted to show that the ‘Our Day’ sticker could be more versatile than just being used for weddings.

Butterfly Frame

Prima Butterfly from the Andorra with Butterfly pack.

The soft gentle colours of some of the Cappella papers are perfect for baby pages and items and so I used one of the very soft papers as the base for this frame. I printed on some word art first and then adhered the paper to the chipboard frame. I sanded the edges all the way round, partly to adhere the paper really well and partly to give a very softly distressed look to it all.

Using one of the chipboard frames across the aperture of the frame also covered up any edges that were less than perfect.

I added the beautiful Prima butterfly and then some smaller butterflies which I stamped and cut out. It doesn’t show well but they are heat embossed with clear enamel and so really shine and they are very dimensional, only stuck down the centre so they seem to fly off the frame.

"Especially For You" Card

Designed by Karen Leahy

Products used:

I loved the soft pinks and mossy greens teamed with soft browns and creams of the Cappella collection and they were perfect for an all purpose card. I like to make some pretty all purpose cards to keep in stock for when you need something quickly. The pipe-cleaner posies were gorgeous and having one as the centre-piece of a card worked well. The Cappella chipboard accent just finished the card off along the bottom edge.

I always thing it is interesting to see if paper ranges can be used for totally different themes and this Cappella range certainly can. The mix of colours can do the soft and romantic but can also do the real earthy as well and that is what I wanted for this page.

I used two different patterned papers stitched onto the cardstock background. I added a strip cut from the doily paper along the bottom and one of the sticker borders to it in the colours together.

The journaling block was cut with a Nestability die and then I added two of the rub-ons from the range to coordinate the journaling block with the colours on the page. They were really soft but added just the right tone to the block. I couldn’t resist adding one of the little gems to the centre of each flower.
