Charmed Cards & Crafts May 17 Kit Project Instructions

These are the instructions for using our May 17 Kit. The kit is based on the High Tea collection by Kaisercraft.

There are two sets of projects by two designers: Karen Mortensen and Cal Summers. Both used the kit and you can see below what they each made from one kit.

"Friends Forever"

Showcasing Kaisercraft's "High Tea" Collection by Charmed Cards & Crafts

© Charmed Cards & Crafts 2017.. All rights reserved.

This layout was created by Cal Summers using the Charmed Cards & Crafts May 2017 Layout/Card kit.

Papers Used: "Scones" - "Afternoon Tea" - "Tea Leaves" - "Devonshire" - Plain cardstock "Powder Blue" "Coconut".

If you haven't already, cut all the sentiment strips off the papers (at the bottom on the reverse side) – I have absolutely no idea which one of the papers I cut the strip I used in this layout from. Who knows if Karen will ever trust me to do a layout again??

1. Cut the "Tea Leaves" paper to 10.75 by 10.75 inches. Distress the edges and rip a couple of slots towards top left and down from top right. Train the paper to roll back and curl a little. Stick this paper onto the "Powder Blue" cardstock which you will have cut to 11.5 by 11.5 inches. Stick this onto the "Coconut" cardstock so you have three layers. Make sure they are centred one on top of each other. I stitched all around the "Tea Leaves" piece but it looks just as good to draw on faux stitching.

2. Cut a piece of the back of "Afternoon Tea" (the spotty side) 6 by 12 inches. Distress the edges and rip and curl into the paper that will sit bottom left. Stick this about 1.5 to 2 inches up from the bottom of your layered page and sew or draw stitching all around the outside.

3. I also stitched around the outside of my photo which was printed with a white border – if your photo doesn’t have a border it may be an idea to mat it into white cardstock at this point.

4. Cut out some big bunches of flowers from the "Devonshire" paper – I cut three. Also cut out the "Friends Forever" motif from the "Scones" paper and the "A friend is someone who knows the song in your heart…" motif. Cut this into four parts. It’s now time to layer up your layout.

5. I raised my photo by sticking it onto a piece of waste chipboard I had from a previous project. I stuck this on top of the green doily from the kit. I also used some texture die cuts. Stick the photo onto the background so it’s about 3 inches up from the bottom of the page and about 1.5 inches in from the right hand side.

6. Stick the border from the "???" paper right across the page below the matted photograph. Raise up the "Forever Friends" motif on chipboard or foam pads and stick to the left of the photo onto the doily. Add the "A friend is someone…" words below and to the left of this as in the main photo of the completed layout.

7. Raise up some of the cut out roses from the "Devonshire" paper on foam pads and stick to the bottom left of the photo. Tuck a smaller cut out of the flowers to the top of the photo and then to the bottom right. Add a few gems from the kit. I also added one of the metallic buttons and a couple of the paper roses to add interest.

8. Finish by adding small pieces of the lace from the kit behind the ripped and rolled papers at the edges of the layout. Finish with paper roses (see main photo for guidance.)

"Afternoon Tea"

Showcasing Kaisercraft's "High Tea" Collection by Charmed Cards & Crafts

© Charmed Cards & Crafts 2017.. All rights reserved.

This layout was created by Cal Summers using the Charmed Cards & Crafts May 2017 Layout/Card kit.

Papers Used: "Scones" - "Afternoon Tea" - "Tea Leaves" - "Devonshire" – "Biscuits" Speciality embossed paper. Plain cardstock "Flamingo"

If you haven't already, cut all the sentiment strips off the papers (at the bottom on the reverse side) – I have absolutely no idea which of the papers I cut the strips I used in this layout from. Use any that take your fancy!

1. Cut the "Biscuits" paper to 11.5 by 11.5 inches. Distress the edges. Stick this paper onto the "Flamingo" cardstock. From off cuts of your other patterned papers take strips between 0.5 to 1 inch wide by 11.5 long or less as well as the sentiment strips. You can ink the edges of the strips if you wish. Line them up vertically slightly to the right of the middle of the papers. Mix them up until you are pleased with the arrangement and adhere. I then stitched all around the "Biscuits" piece but it looks just as good to draw on faux stitching.

2. I used two photos on this layout. One measures 4.75 x 3.5 inches and the other3.75 by 2.5 inches. I distressed the edges of the photos using a nail file. I then stuck some waste chipboard to the back of the photos – one piece thick in the larger photo and two pieces thick on the smaller. I added a length of the lace to the back of the bottom of both photos and used some texture die cuts to add some interest to the right hand side of the larger photo and the left hand side of the smaller photo.

3. Layer up the photos onto your page (use the main photo for guidance).

4. Cut out some of the flowers from the "Devonshire" paper – I cut four. Also cut out the "You make life beautiful", "Tea – a hug in a cup", "Love" and "You are my happiness" motifs from the "Scones" paper along with the teacup stack and macaroons. From the speciality paper cut five strips about 1.5 by 1 inches and cut inverse chevrons into the bottom. Ink the edges if you like. Layer these all around the photos as per the picture of the layout. The flags of speciality paper go under the "You make life Beautiful" motif. The flowers from the "Devonshire" paper go in the top right hand corner raised up on foam pads. The "You are my happiness" strip was stuck in a curve so it rises out from the page like a flag.

5. Add the finishing touches. I added buttons and a wooden cupcake and gems and pearls to the strips of patterned paper.

6. Finally I added my title and some journalling. I printed mine onto acetate but letter stickers would be great for the title. Equally, you could handwrite the journalling in the top left hand corner.

"One Page Mini Album"

Showcasing Kaisercraft's "High Tea" Collection by Charmed Cards & Crafts

© Charmed Cards & Crafts 2017.. All rights reserved.

This mini album was created by Cal Summers using the Charmed Cards & Crafts May 2017 Layout/Card kit.

Papers Used: "Scones" - "Tea Time" - "Devonshire" – "Biscuits" Speciality embossed paper. Plain cardstock "Duck Egg".

1. Take your plain cardstock "Duck Egg" and score at 3", 6" and 9" . Turn your paper 90 degrees and repeat – this will leave you with a grid pattern of score lines on your cardstock. You now need to cut into your cardstock like the diagram below. The dashed lines are the cut lines. You will be left with a sort of an M shape.

2. Now you have to fold your cardstock into an album shape. It is literally folding a concertina– fold backward and forwards until you end up with a square book that is 3 inches square.

3. Cut two pieces of chipboard or very thick card at 3.5 by 3.5 inches. Take your patterned paper and cut two squares of 4.5 by 4.5 inches. Stick your chipboard pieces right in the middle. I’ve stuck mine so the blue side of the patterned paper will be the cover of my book.

Now you have to fold the edges to the inside so you end up with two square covers – the easiest way is to mitre the corners and gently fold the paper over and glue. Now glue your book onto the covers. All you have to do is glue one side of each pf the front and back pages of the book onto the covered chipboard making sure it’s centred top to bottom and side to side.

4. Find some coordinating ribbon and glue just to the front of the book. Take the "Best Wishes" motif from the "Scones" paper and glue onto the book. Add some of the lace below.

5. Build up the front of the cover using some cut out roses from the "Devonshire" paper, and die cuts, paper flowers and a teapot and cup from the reverse of the "Scones" paper. Layer up your cover as in the photos below.

DESIGNER: KAREN MORTENSEN

"These are the Moments" Layout.

© Charmed Cards & Crafts 2017.. All rights reserved.

This layout was created by Karen Mortensen using the Charmed Cards & Crafts May 2017 kit.

Papers Used: "Scones" - "Afternoon Tea" -  "Biscuit" - "Devonshire" - Plain cardstock "Duck Egg", "Flamingo", "Powder Blue" "Coconut".

Optional Tools: Inks/Pens

All of the patterned sheets have a border strip at the bottom  on the reverse side of the paper. If you haven't already cut all the sentiment strips off the papers - in this layout I cut my strip from "Devonshire" with a tiny bit of the pink showing at the top.

1.   Stick "Devonshire" paper onto "Duck Egg" cardstock (optional) and draw faux stitching all around the edge (optional).

2.   Cut out the cups and cakes on the front of "Biscuit" using a craft knife. Put to one side.  IMPORTANT: If you are making the "Best Wishes" card then also completely cut out the top right-hand corner of that paper (roses, doily and mat) and put aside.

3.   Turn paper around and cut the white "planks of wood" on the reverse of the paper as shown on the image. I used a main piece and then loose "planks" to dot around, this way you use all the paper. Cut into the planks as depicted on the main picture.  Ink or colour edges with grey ink or pen, I used a Copic pen and just ran it down the edges (colour code: W3) and slightly in here and there for a "raw edge" effect. Arrange your planks on the "Afternoon Tea" paper and stick down, leaving a few of the edges unstuck for a 3D effect.

4.   Stick the sides down of the "These are the moments to always remember" strip to the top of the layout on the "Devonshire" paper, leaving the piece where the words are unstuck.

5.   My picture here is by Caroline Palmer at CP Photography and measures 11.5cm x 8.5cm. Mat your picture on Powder Blue cardstock, then on Coconut and then Flamingo, leaving just a narrow margin in each case. Finally mat onto a piece of "Devonshire" paper measuring 14.5cm x 11.5cm - IMPORTANT: choose your piece so that you don't cut into roses that you want on the reverse side. Place the matted stack onto the layout as depicted.

6.   Stick the border from the "Devonshire" paper right across the page below the matted photograph. I stuck a texture die-cut on top of that below the picture to add dimension to the layout.

7.   Mat the "Friends Forever" sentiment from the "Scones" paper onto "Flamingo" cardstock and  adhere to layout using foam tape .

8.   Stick the tea cup stack and cakes to the right of the picture (see main picture for guidance).

9.   Fussy cut the roses on the remaining piece of "Devonshire" paper. I like to colour the white edges of my fussy cutting so just run a coordinating coloured pen around the edges (optional). Again I used Copic pens here, colours RV32 and YG03. Adhere roses as pictured. You can use foam tape to raise it off the page if you wish. Tuck some under the word strip at the top and just ad a little glue to the strip where it meet the flowers. Put whatever roses you have left aside for the cards we are making.

10.   Finish with the following embellishments: three 10 pearl strips to edges of the picture - one large Imaginisce Polished Pebble brad - eight rhinestones dotted around on the flowers.

Optional Tools: Inks/Pens/Dies/Punches

If you haven't already, cut all the sentiment strips off the papers (at the bottom on the reverse side of each patterned sheet).

Card 1 - Best Wishes

1.   Cut a piece of cardstock Flamingo into size 12" x 5.5". Fold on the longest side into a card measuring 6"x5.5" with fold at the top.

2.   Cut a piece of cardstock "Lollipop" into size 5.75" x 5". Stick to the front of the card.

3.   Adhere a textured die-cut to the top of the card leaving it slightly unstuck in places.

4.   Cut out the "Best Wishes" sentiment from the "Scones" paper ink edges (optional) and mat on "Lollipop" cardstock. Rough the edges (you can just use your finger nail if you don't have a tool for it) and stick to the front of the card (see picture for guidance)

5.   Cut out the top right-hand corner of the "Biscuit" paper, complete with roses, leaves, doily and mat. I like to ink edges when I fussy cut but that is optional. Stick cut-out to left hand corner leaving some unstuck. Fussy cut a few of the  flowers from "Tea Leaves" and stick one at the bottom and some around the corner of the sentiment (see picture)

6.   Tuck a 3.5" piece of the lace ribbon just below the cut-out.  Add three roses.

Decorate the inside as you wish.

Card 2 - You are my happiness

Cut a piece of "Powder Blue" cardstock into size 8.8" x 6.5" and fold into a card 4.4" (width) x 6.5" (height). I have used an embossing folder but you have the luxury of having a half sheet of the Floral Wallpaper Embossed paper. Cut a piece size 4" x 6" and stick to the front (you can ink edges if you wish before sticking it on). Cut the "You are my happiness" sentiment from the "Scones" paper and stick to the middle as shown.

Using the Powder Blue cardstock die-cut or punch an edge to sit below the sentiment strip.

Cut out the "Love" sentiment from the "Scones" paper. Ink edges (optional) and tuck under die-cut edge. Add a cut out rose left over from the layout you created.

Add three buttons (colours in your kit may vary) and two x 10 pearl strips.

Decorate the inside as you wish.

Card 3 - a hug in a cup - Voucher Card

A great way to present a voucher as a gift.

Cut a 8" x 6.5" piece of cardstock "Coconut". Fold  into  a card size 4" (height) x 6.5"(width) with the fold at the top.

Use part of  the "Noted" strip from the "Tea Time" paper and stick it onto the middle of the front of the card.

Cut an edge from dies or punches from the "Flamingo" cardstock and stick below the strip.

Cut out the "Tea a hug in a cup" from the "Scones" paper and mat onto lollipop cardstock. Stick onto the front of the card (obscuring the "Noted" word) on foam tape to elevate the sentiment.

Fussy cut tea post and cup from the back of the "Scones" paper, ensuring you are not cutting into anything you need for any of the projects. Add a few rhinestones.

Inside the card:     Cut a piece of Flamingo cardstock into size 6.25" x 2.25". Ink edges (optional). Put double-sided tape on the edges at the side of bottom ONLY and stick down. Cut a piece from the back of the "Scones" paper, measuring5.5" x 2.1", again ensuring you are not cutting into anything you need for any of the projects. Ink edges and stick on top of the Flamingo cardstock.

Now you have a pocket for your voucher. I added a die-cup tea cup (optional) and two rhinestones.

Card 4 - Sending my Love

Cut a piece of Powder Blue cardstock into size 11.2" x 5.6" and fold into a card measuring 5.6" x 5.6" with fold at the top.

Cut out the "Sending my love" sentiment from the "Scones" paper. Ink edges with green ink (optional) and mat onto a piece of 4.5" x 3.2"Lollipop cardstock.  Stick onto front of card on foam tape to elevate it from the card. Add two 3" pieces of lace ribbon, one to the top right-hand side, and the other to the bottom left hand-side. Fussy cut flowers from "Tea Leaves" and stick onto card as shown. I had a couple of roses from Devonshire left also and popped them on too.

Add the rhinestones.

Decorate the inside as you wish.

Card 5 - So many of my smiles begin with you

Many die-cutting companies sell the window dies and they are just as fabulous on cards as they are on layouts.

Cut a a piece of cardstock into a card size 6" (width" x 5.25 (height). Cut a piece of the reverse side of "Tea Time" into size 5.6" x 5". Stick onto front of card.

Cut a piece of cardstock size 5" x 3.6", and a piece of the reverse side of "Devonshire" into size 4.9" x 3.6" and mat them together slightly askew (see picture for guidance). Draw faux stitching around the edges.

Cut the "So many of my smiles begin with you" strip from the "Tea Leaves" paper and mat it onto Powder Blue cardstock. Wrap this around the card (see picture for guidance). Fussy cut some flowers from "Tea Leaves". Adhere the window cut-out. Cut the "Thank you" sentiment from the "Scones" paper and adhere next to the window. Add two velvet corners, cut-out flowers, pearls and rhinestones.

Decorate the inside as you wish.

Card 6 -Just for you

Cut a piece of Coconut cardstock into size 12" x 5.7" and fold into a card size 6" x 5.7"

Cut the image in the left hand corner of "Tea Time"  out. Take a craft knife and cut around the cup in the Tea Time paper so we can tuck the sentiment behind it.

Cut out the "Just for You" sentiment from the Scones paper. Ink edges with green ink (optional) and tuck it behind the cut cup as depicted.

Cut a piece measuring 5.75" x 5.5" from the "Tea Time" paper. Ink edges in light pink (optional)

Cut the bottom strip from the "Afternoon Tea" paper. Ink edges in light pink (optional).  Cut two pieces to fit across the "Tea Time" paper and stick one piece to the top of the "Tea Time" paper and the other half to the bottom edge.  Stick onto front of card

Stick a green doily to the card as shown

Stick the corner piece you made earlier to the front of the card. I had a rose form the Devonshire paper left over and tucked it behind this piece as shown.

Cut the long sentiment strip from the "Scones" paper and cut into segments as depicted. Ink edges then stick onto card as shown.

Add flowers and pearls as shown. Add a fussy cut tea pot from the reverse of the "Scones" paper.

Decorate the inside as you wish.

Card 7 - You make life beautiful

This is a stepper card. This is our final card and we are using some of our leftovers here.

Cut a piece of Lollipop cardstock size 5.5" x 12"

On the longest side score at points: 1.25" - 2.5" - 4.25" - 6" - 9". Fold  as in the picture below:

Decorate as shown with the following:

·         Sentiment from "Scones" paper matted on Lollipop cardstock and stuck to the back so elevated from the card when folded.

·         Back piece of paper measuring 5.3" x 3"  is cut from the "Tea Leaves" paper as are the fussy cut flowers around the sentiment and at the very front. Larger cut out roses are left-over from "Devonshire"

·         Middle section is decorated with a 5.3" x 1.4" piece of the reverse side of "Tea Leaves". Front section is from the same paper and measures 5.3" x 1.1". I had a tiny pieces of edge strip left over from "Afternoon Tea" and adhered it to the front as shown.

·         Four Velvet Corners - two at the front, two at the back.

·         Rhinestones

·         Kaisercraft Rose
